Default New shocks;HORRIBLE HANDLING!!!

Hey guys,I just installed a set of Progressive 940's on my Electraglide. As advertised they lowered the rear of the bike by an inch. I didn't lower the front.
Now the bike handles so poorly I almost dumped it turning a tight, slow corner (alley). The counter steering now requires a hell of a lot of force to put the bike where I want it at slower speeds. Its kinda scary even!
I lowered my Wideglide an inch (Yeah,I know, different bike) and didn't notice anything significantly different. I have also lowered other bikes and it wasn't this bad.
Have any of you experienced this? Does this make sense?

Lowering the back end alters the steering geometry but I would check tyre pressures and steering head bearings before worrying about it....it may still be something to worry about...this is why I do not advocate lowering bikes.....one thing Harleys lack is ground clearance...why anyone would reduce it is beyond me but hey....some people like the look.

Hi Brett, this does sound strange. First thing is to give your bike a thorough check from stem to stern, to ensure everything is in good order. The change of attitude due to the shorter shocks may be highlighting something that was not quite right before you changed over.

In addition to Spanner's suggestions, take a look at your rubber engine mounts, front and rear.

I will give it a good look over today. I will check the motor mounts as well-thanks for the suggestion.

So now your rear is the same height as a SG. It's not the shock, something else is going on. Or else you would be hearing the same complaint about SG's.

Talked with a friend this morning about it. When I first changed the shocks it was fine. My buddy then described to the T what happened when his neck bearings went out. The bike has about 65K on her. Harley says to change them out at 50K. Anyone tackled this before on an Electraglide? Tough job?

Get the shop manual. You can do it. I've had my whole front end apart, except for the neck bearings. Lots of help here on the forum.

I was always told that whatever you do the rear shocks you should do to the front on a touring, so if you lower the back an inch you should also lower the front. I have a wobble on mine at 80+ when i run my air ride rear slighlty lower than stock, crack it all the way up and it vanishes. Gonna drop my front end an 1" this winter to bring it back in line again.
