Default How do I remove the main bearing???

I am trying to replace the main crankshaft outer bearing and not sure exactly what is required to replace it? Do I have to use a special tool like the "JIMS" brand?

I am hoping this can be done with out splitting the case? Thanks in advance!!!

You'll need to split the cases and anyway, when one bearing goes you should check the rest and if its apart you might aswell replace them.

Hi markle and welcome to HDF from the UK. As Spanners says, the only way of getting out any of the crankshaft bearings is by dismantling the engine. They are the biggest and most important bearings in the motor and if one needs changing you should change both.

What mileage does your bike have and why do you want to change that one?

Thanks for the info, I was afraid that was gonna be the answer...its just that Lonestar is this weekend...and I really don't want to ride my Suzuki there :-(

The bearing seal on that side was leaking pretty bad but after some investigation it appears that it is only the seal b/c the is 0 endplay and the bushing had no grooving either so hopefully I can get away with a seal. The motor is actually an S&S super stocker w/15,000 on it. The HD seal should fit right? b/c that I can get installed by Thursday.

Fellow S&S owner here, but I must admit I don't know if that seal will fit. Hope it does and you can get rolling again quickly.

The seal should fit without any problems. Be careful the spring doesn't come out of the seal.W e had a customer come in a few months back that had a seal leak. He replaced the seal and still had problems. We found the seal had lost it's spring before he installed it.

Always pack the back side of the seal with grease...keeps the spring from popping out.
