I have a 92 FLHTC and I'm wanting to update the inner fairing to a 96 style. Has anybody here tried that or know if it's a bolt up swap? I figure its either that or go with a custom made fiberglass one that looks about like the newer ones. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
If, u do decide to go through with this swap email me. I may be willing to help offset the cost of the project by buying the one you have. Hell, I have grown to love mine. Everybody wants to know what model it is haha. I tell em 86 they cant believe it. Well, thats what i like to think.
NC_Glover,
Just for you information. I have a 90 and 95 flhtcu. I deciced I wanted to change the 95 to a 96 model also. I have been gathering parts for over a year. It Is NOT just the inner fairing swap. The inner and outer, all gages, windshield, inner fairing mounts, all wiring, the ignition switch covers and radio box is all different. even the wind deflectors on the sides are different. I probably have close to $500 in what I have bought and I already had the outer fairing.
However, It is doable and if you decide to do this I like billzflht would like to help you offset your expense by buying what you have .
I did changed the inner fairing on my Ultra. (It has been totaled)
One major change that needs to be done, besides the parts, is for the fork lock. (The original ignition switch and lock will not work with the new inner fairing)
The lock plate is different. The bolt used to lock the forks comes down in a different position. I could not find a plate that Harley used. So I made one from 1/4 in steel plate. I copied the plate from a friend's '98. I striped the frame and welded it in place. You must get the measurements correct or the fork will not lock.
