Default Automatic chain tensioner

I recently pulled my transmission to have it rebuilt and was looking into upgrades while I was in the primary. I saw an automatic chain tensioner and I was wondering if any of yall have tried one and if they were any good.

They have their uses but they have some drawbacks, can be fiddly to refit primary when changing belts or IPBs and on big inch motors they can over tension when the power comes in with a bang.

I have the hayden about 20-25K, no adjustments needed and no clunk either. I'll be in the primary this winter for something else so we'll see how it is holding up. I didn't install it and the hayden is known for breaking one of the two springs.

I think they cost 100 bucks and I'd just adjust my chain now and then if I didn't already have the thing..

I have an M6 in my bike and love it! It smooths out the drive and improves gear changes, so I recommend that model. Had it installed at the same time as my S&S 107".

Fan of the Hayden M-6 here. Works perfect on the FXR and will be on the Ultra the first time the primary cover comes off.

I appreciate the thread here. Often have wondered why the primary chain does not come with this setup shown. I welded on a Monstercraft chain tensioner on my chopper... . Just ordered one from the link above. Thanks.
