Default FXR backbone and tanks!

Hey Guys,

I need a tank for my 88 FXRp ( preferably a black/birch CHP tank)- mine has finally rusted through.

I'm not interested in a $800 tank from elvis' place so am thinking about alternatives.

I see softail tanks around cheap, which I could use a "quick bob" mount kit.

But how about bagger tanks?

Do the 5 or 6 gallon bagger tanks mount to the FXR frame ( over that big backbone) and do the mounts line up at all ?

Thanks, Mike

Mike,

If you would like to measure the width of your backbone and the length of your rusty tank, I have a 1990 FLHS with 5 gallon tank, also a recent 6 gallon one, which fits!

The newer nagger tanks will probably fit and newer dyna tanks with some massaging just go with one from a carb bike and you won't have all of the funky efi clip attachments. The twincam bikes that I am talking about also have a square backbone

The 6 gallon tanks are all EFI, but Pingel do a gas tap that fits in place of the fuel lines.

It is interesting to compare the 6 and 5 gallon tanks. The larger one mounts a little further forward on the bike and is a bit longer at the rear, so the seat may need to be reshaped. It is a little taller, with a bowed top, not flat, but about the same width. Also the underside is flatter and may clash with the Evo head steady. Harley seem to have got the extra gallon by squeezing in a couple of cubic inches here and there - it really is quite clever!
