All Big twins from Shovel to TC are supoosed to use the same mounting points but be aware that the FXR uses the short chaincase motor....like a Road King rather than a Dyna.

Not quite...the 88B motors have the same front mounts as EVOs and you can get an adapter to bolt up the rear. No other TC motor will bolt up. Look at the pic to see the type that will bolt in.

Will work

Will NOT work

If you are not afraid to cut and weld...some have successfully trans-planted an entire late model FL drivetrain...trans and all

A twin cam in a FXR? Sacrilege!! I would fix whatever is wrong with the Evo, and press on.

But if you must…it is probably possible with the proper adapter, or with a little torch work.

probably cheaper to get an evo motor- my local craigslist has a couple pop up every week, most would want a rebuild or inspection.

S&S would be a good call, get a complete drop in motor build the way you want it.

or the Harley remanufactured motor, and get your numbers stamped into it.
the draw back here is that they may require your dealer pull the old motor, so that gets pricey.

Dude, thats an A motor, the B is the one with balance shafts and will not fit....

"
The Twin Cam wasn't initially used in the Softail model family before the year 2000. This was due to the chassis design and vibration transfer to the Softail frame as a result of the direct (hard) mounting of the engine. Dyna models are "rubber mounted", dampening the majority of vibration transfer to the frame and rider. Harley solved the issue for the Softail family by designing an engine variant known as Twin Cam 88B. It is basically the same engine as the original (now called "Twin Cam 88A"), but with a modified engine block design that incorporates twin chain-driven counter-balancers. This caused some controversy among Harley veterans, claiming that the "Harley vibes" were a part of their motorcycles. The Twin Cam 96B engine was released at the same time as the Twin Cam 96A model, for the 2007 model year, and is currently used on all Softail models."
