The battery needs to be moved under the seat. You can use the battery box (66281-93A) used from 1993-96. If you don't also move the oil tank under the transmission, you will need to trim the box to fit using the oil tank and use a smaller battery (like the one used on a Sportster).

Will a side cover from a '93 fit if the oil tank is relocated?
I have done it on my 1991 FLT. Use 93-96 under seat battery tray (trimmed about an inch or so on both sides), good quality late model Sportster battery, and shorten/reroute battery cables. Used velcro strap from Lowes to fasten battery to tray. Looks like factory installation and been using for one year with no problem.

Any pics of the install? Did you change to the new bag and side cover?
