I remove the filter first. A big screwdriver and hammer is the easiest way to get that off I find! Then drain the tank and I use the cardboard tube from a large paper roll as a disposable funnel (from kitchen tissue) to direct the oil and plug into a bowl. Fit new filter, refill tank, run engine to confirm oil is circulating, then top up.
