Default Stock pipes... Horrible??

Friends,
looks like I'm stuck with having to use the stock slip-ons on my '99 Fatboy. Have good ol' SE original slash pipes on there now and i dig them, but I'm 20db over legal. So what do you guys think? Am I screwed? Should I just live with it, are the stock pipes that bad? I've never had them on. Wouldn't the jetting have to be changed?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Dude what Gestapo state do you live in where 20 db over legal would even turn a cops head
When it's a Harley? I'm probably 40db or more above legal. If you like the se pipes you got and your not getting tickets leave them on ! 20 db over legAl us expected on a Harley and most cops won't give you've second look. I say leave then alone.

Is that a serious question? Do you really give a f@#$? Pardon my french

As far as the jetting goes - yes, you gotta rejet with more restrictive pipes.

Personally, I wouldn't bother. So far for many years I've got only one ticket for apes, and got away with loud pipes, coz "soneofabitch, he still got some kinda baffles in there!", quote on quote

I hear ya! I'm in Sweden and every two years you have to renew your tags and they go through your bike with a fine-toothed comb. Legal for the '99 is 103db. Newer bikes are 98db!
How about that you have to have a HUGE red reflecto sticker for safety under your rear light??? Yes, the cops aint too groovin' on the ol' HD's. Even though they aaaaallll want one.
One option is to put the stock on for the test (i just took it today and the SE failed) and then switch back out.
I feel damn naked without loud pipes... how else will the fools know when you're coming.

My guess is SE as well as the stockes are basically slipons, so it should be very fast to change them. Even the bracket would probably match somehow

Yes, they are pretty much the same. I just put the stocks on and funny ****, they actually sound kind of good! Mellow, not as fire-breathing. I guess I'm getting old. I haven't ridden with them yet. Do you think that I'll need to mess with the carb? (I guess it'll be obvious soon enough). But what do you think?

well they are more restrictive, so in theory you will run a bit richer. So I would check the color of the plugs as of now (to make sure you had a good mixture a priori), and then after a day of riding i'd say

Same here. Took off the fishtails and installed stock slip ons. So much nicer to ride.....had to lean the carb a bit, but all is great now!

Ok here's how Sweden ranked up til now on my I'm gonna move there someday scale.

Hot big tittied blondes everywhere you look 50 points
Within driving distances to the best hashish money can buy 50 points
How many times did you ever hear about Sweden waging war on anyone or vice versa? 50 points
Meatballs...everyone loves meatballs 50 points

Inspections yearly to plate anything especially my Harley only to be rejected by a
d I c k h e a d cop in a ridiculous uniform simply because he's jealous he can't afford one making my life miserable and forcing me to ride a Harley that sounds more like an Honda shadow......-200 points total points for moving to Sweden =0

Reasons to stay here by points........

Ugly chicks with big **** that love Harley's are always a few beers away from looking Swedish 500 points.

Most inspections can be passed with a twenty dollar bill and my sisters phone number 500 points

No hashish Parlors but plenty of weed and at least one head shop near by that sells hookahs 500 points.

Total 1500 points!

Guess I'll stay In Indiana......you'd have to run the cop over with no mufflers on the bike and a sign that says " drug dealer" on your back to get stopped on a Harley here in Indiana......God bless America where even cops love Harley's so much that if they don't have they're own they love the fact that you do.
