Default FXR Front Wheel Swap Speedo Drive Prob/?

I wanted to swap out a 21" harley mag wheel, off a sporty, that my buddy had lying around for the 19" mag that came on my bike. They are both 3/4" axle for narrowglide front ends and the brake lined up fine, but the bearing/spacer (?) on the sporty rim didnt have the recess to fit the speedo drive.

I can swap the brakes to accommodate the speedo drive tang, but does the whole bearing/spacer assembly have to be swapped? I know the speedo will be a little off but Im not concerned.

FXR wheel

Sporty wheel

This is what it looked like. Im not sold, I think Im going to look for a 21" spoked front rim. I have some time since I dont have a bearing puller if the assembly has to be swapped. Its way easier to find one off a sporty, but Ill still have to deal with the speedo drive issue.

thanks!

Yes you can swap the brake rotors. Then pull just the spacer out from the seal and you should be able to put the speedo drive in place of it.

Does the front wheel assy with the speedo drive you have fit into your lower fork legs?

Progas - On the speedo side of the sporty wheel (pic 2) there is no spacer, just the bearing. It looks like a sealed bearing. There is no spacer.

Sportsterbob - the speedo drive sits in a recess on the bearing, theres no recess on the fork for it to fit into.

I think I know what you mean...The speedo drive is a spacer and there are different widths of speedo drives available. You'll have to figure out which width to get but it can be done! There is no recess on either of the lower legs.

A sealed 3/4" bearing? I didn't know HD used them. If the bearing bore is deep enough, you might be able to use a shorter inner spacer to move the bearing in or use the earlier cup, cone and seal set up like your old wheel.

Harley used them on some models from around 2002. The easy way to compare wheels with tapered rollers and the later ones is to measure the hole in the centre of the rotor. Later rotors have a larger diameter hole and the wheel in the lower pic does look like a sealed bearing version.

Oh yea, I see that in the picture. So the old rotor won't fit. Personally, unless you're after looks only, I swapped the 21" on my FXLR for a 19"and I think it handles alot better.
