Default another random problem when starting my 99 fxstc

I always start my bike in neutral and the neutral light will be on and the bike will start right up., But recently and becoming more frequent when i turn the ignition on with it it in neutral ...and the netral light wont be on and the starter wont engage, turn the ignition over to accessorie and the neutral light will be on, I can catch it in gear though. Other times i turn it on, neutral light on and away i go ! There no is no rhyme or reason when it does this? on a side note last winter i had new bars installed and they had to redo the wiring for the handlebars, (previous owner had it butchered up a little, but never had a problem ) can someone please help me out in a hurry cause im going on a big bike run this Sat. and i dont want to be caught with my pants down when it decides to take a fit again !!! Thanks for any insight Frank

Sounds like it might be your ignition switch.

Agree; I would check the ignition switch first. They are known to go bad like that.

I'm on my third ignition switch. Stock went out, had an Indy replace that one and recently replaced the last one myself. I don't know about the origional one, but the Indy's replacement was from China and the latest one I bought from HD dealer was made in Japan.

Check all your connections first because they are small and take a beating from vibration. Have found a few broken before, but my motor is rigind mounted. Good luck.
