Default EVO Air Cleaner

I posted this in another section, then found this one. I have a round air cleaner cover from an 80 Cubic Inch bike. it has the brushed stainless or aluminum panel on the outside. The round brushed panel is in pretty bad shape. The rest if very nice. Does anyone know if this panel can be removed and the chrome under it polished? I tried using a hair drier for awhile but it wouldn't budge. I know I can buy a decorative cover to hide the brushed part, but I'd like to remove it if possible. Thanks

Yes, Goo Gone, Goof Off or similar solvent will get it going. Use a old credit card or similar non-metallic piece and work it in between the two. It is difficult not to damage the panel, but it sounds like it's ready for the trash anyway. After you get it off ,you will still have a lot of glue to deal with. Just keep applying the solvent and wiping off what you can. It's a messy job but the chrome underneath should clean up nice.

Seeing that the insert is no good, just throw the cover in a container of fuel or thinners and the insert will come off easily, and it won't damage the chrome

I put a color matched insert on my wife's 01 football stock. HD says to over stick it, but I used copious amount of WD40. It is just held on with foam tape. Under the insert her cover had some chrome damage tho. Don't be surprised if you find any.

Thanks for the advice. I let it soak with some Goo Off for awhile and was ablet o finally peel up an edge and got it off. Took a while to get the rest of the glue off, but the chrome was nice when I was done. I'm gonna stick with the plain chrome, rather than put a replacement panel on.

i used the wd-40..let it soak in well...use a plastic spatula from tool store..the kind used to plaster small holes in the wall...then when done wax...will look really nice when completed.
