Default Mechanical speedometer

Need some info on a speedometer for my '97 glide. Don't have a parts manual to check and was wondering if the odometer reset cable is an integral part of the speedometer. My odometer has quit working and I found another speedometer on ebay, but in the pictures it appears the cable has been chopped off at the back of the unit. Hoping someone here can shed some light on it for me before I have to bust apart the fairing again.

I don't believe that it is necessary, but why anyone would chop it off is beyond me. The Speedo/ODO should work fine without it.

The fact that the cable is missing and without it you can no longer reset it is an issue to me. See little to be gained by purchasing a unit that can't be reset to replace a unit that does not work.

Just replaced the speedo on my ''97Ultra" due to a bad reed switch. The odometer cable is integral just as you suspected.

Thanks - I thought so as well...the ebayer was being less than forthcoming shall we say. The schmuck's ad... http://www.ebay.com/itm/1999-Harley-...sories&vxp=mtr

Edit: Just found one from another forum member...he wanted $75, but I sent him $100.

That was one of the problems I was having on my '98 speedometer, until I converted everything over to 2000-2003 electronic.

Those 1996-1999 speedometers are getting more difficult to find as well....

67349-96 mph speedometer
67350-96 kph speedometer
75112-96 mph/kph speedometer

be sure to send a note to ebay and to him with your concerns. It's always buyer beware, but selling junk ain't cool.
