Default O ring help

I have a dumb question, I'm helping my neighbor fix his accel pump on his 94 dyna convertible, it was leaking gas out of the rubber boot on top of the pump rod we got the parts and there is a little oring that he got from the dealer and when I pulled the accel pump apart there was no oring anywhere, I looked at the diagram I see the oring on there but don't understand where it goes? Thanks in advanced for your help.

It only fits in one place, its a little recess in the bottom cover of the accelerator pump....off to the side and corresponds to a drilling in the float bowl where the cover goes on.
