title it as a custom build------have the previous owner give you a bill of sale for the frame engine and transmission all separate then put it in a heap and try to get it inspected for the assigned vin-----------just hope the cop doesnt find vin any place.Either that or scrap it if you call s@s with the engine serial number of the lifter side of the engine they should be able to tell you what cubic inch it is and what it was when they sold it.A good 113 will bring $3000 by it self

Yes they are. When ordering a Harley replacement frame, we always cut the head of the old one off and sent it in before Harley would send the new one.

This lady has an aftermarket frame.

As far as I'm concerned the guy she bought it from committed fraud!
If you have an aftermarket frame then you have a custom build.
He sold it as a Harley and it isn't.

A friend of mine went through sorta the same thing. It was a mess.

My take on this is as long as the parts on the bike cannot be proven to be stolen, she has a special construction or custom build.
The DMV can tell you what is needed to register the bike correctly.
You may need to add some stuff like turn indicators and such.

Not sure man she still needs a VIN for it.
Does the DMV issue those?

Red face "cooler heads always prevail"

After going to church yesterday (& praying alot), & talking to my brother in La, I think I'm gonna just keep the bike in the shed until I can settle down. "Cooler heads always prevail" Everytime I think about this mess I get so consumed with rage, it scares me. It also helped to know that my brother is gonna help me if I do have the part the bike out. I had to eat the fact that I didn't take him or my son with me when I bought the bike.......but that's what I get for not remembering him or my son are the only 2 men on this earth I can really trust. At least at this time in my life. My sons gonna go thur the bike & get every number he can. He's NHRA. Races tri state.( Not for a living, he's been a firefighter/emt for 17 years for the city). So all the info y'all have given me will be a help. I had hoped that maybe there was a way I could solve this problem without letting my family know how stupid I was. BUT I couldn't handle it alone. At least I didn't go buy any shells..LOL (Just joking) Thanks again! Everyone has been great!

It is always better to do things with a cool head. To be honest if I was buying a bike from a friend I wouldn't check to make sure the vin was there.

Once again I'm sorry for your troubles and hope everything works out for you.

Here in California the California Highway Patrol actually affixes the tag with the new VIN on the engine and frame. But the DMV is involved, of course, and they are who I would start with.
I am ignorant of the process in her state but I'm confident there is a way to straighten the whole thing out and keep her bike intact as long as there are no PROVEN stolen parts involved.
Good thinking about calming down before taking any course of action.

If they can do that in California, SURELY, they can do it in MS.
