Default Opinions on Fix a flat?

For years I would buy holy tires at swap meets, plug the holes and throw fix a flat in them and go. Worked great. And a benefit was no air loss while sitting. I lose 10-15lbs over a month or two, and that didn't happen with the fix a flat. But the indy guy wanted to shoot me when he changed my tire....messy. Do many use that stuff in your tires? Do you indy guys see it often? And do you shoot the owner?

In my experience, the indy's reaction to that stuff is almost universal. Think about it.

I'm sure they don't like it, but do they see it often? But, after watching him deal with it, I guess it would be polite of me to just air up every now and then, rather than put them through that.

Been along time since I last used that stuff.....I used it years ago when I discovered my front tire was completely flat. No matter how messy it was when installing a new tire later...it sure beat walking. I would do it again.....

Somewhat on a different note....if you still use D402 tires, look for the Police version. Not exactly a runflat tire but you can still ride slowly due to really thick sidewalls. They claim you're not suppose to ride with passengers with these tires.....But I did for thousands of miles with no problems.

On a road trip I always carry a can of the slime, green stuff. I used it last year on my buddies bike when he had a flat while at MB bike week. It worked so well he decided to ride on it the 300 miles home. I was impressed. Not sure how safe that was but, it saved our road trip. We used it in a rear, tubeless tire that picked up a nail in the middle of the tire tread. He said that he would fix it when we got home since it was a rear tire etc.. I said, whatever blows your skirt up..

I don't go to that whiner anymore because of his shoddy work, except, maybe I'll have him change my tires when they are do!

Do the Police version of the D402's require a special rim that was made specifically for the Police Motorcycles?

Well we have a conflict of interests here, between rider and tyre fitter! Changing a tyre takes minutes, but the tyre will work for 5, 10, 15 thousand miles. For anyone who adventures far from home, security of their tyres in the event of a puncture can be crucial. For our Continental trips I use a blue product (can't remember its name, but it is used in fleet vehicles here in the UK) in the hope of warding off the evil dark forces that cause punctures. Use whatever you are comfortable with, but next time try to remember to tell the fitter before he gets it all over himself!

They mount to the stock rim....no difference between civilian and Police version. Good tires, just a little more difficult to mount because of the thick sidewall.
