I don't know crap about electrical stuff but I've seen lots of problems go away with a fresh battery. Wonder if a dying battery is constantly trying to charge an drawing voltage.
Before you mess with ignition switch run a hot wire like somebody already said and see if that kills the problem.Pull the other + wire off the coil so no bike wiring. But i am telling you VOLTAGE is too low. Short would have blown a fuse or burned a wire. Start unpluging lights one at a time. But i still think your going in the wrong direction till you see 13.8 to 14.2 voltage at high idle.
That is the thing! whenI am riding and it is acting up, the voltage is low, then all sudden it will hit a point watching the tach it is usually between 1500 and 2000 rpms and volts will jump and it will run great. Till I hit brakes etc.

Hey just for ships and giggles pull the batt and grind and sand all those ground wires to frame . Also sand the ground cable to the starter. It sounds just like a little draw like brake lights kills it for you. Also just do like a pre trip inspection with the key on not running... Check brake lights signals high low beam radio anything but don't run it. Report back. We can get you through this. DONT buy anymore parts yet!!!! Hey when the batt is out charge it up as your doing the wire maintenance.
One other thing to do...some wont agree but i may be just getting back on 2 wheels but have wired these friggin things for a long time.
Take the hot wire pos wire....off the starter lug... the smaller 10 gauge one not the cable. Move that up to the + side batt post. It helps so much with problems of all kinds..shorten it and solder a new end on it.. i wont steer you wrong. Done many like this.
Check the circuit breaker for corrosion also. If its got any just go get one at the auto parts store. Afteer you get done report back. No more f n around and it will be fixed

Well, believe it or not she is running great today! I had ordered a dynatek ignition module and was waitin on the coil to get here. When taking off the original Module on side of neck, it was obvious, there was a spot where it looked like it was arcing out and the gell was pitted and mushy. New ignition, runs like a champ! Voltage is up where supposed to be and not a single hiccup in 50 miles today! Was acting up before got all way out drive, then gettin better. I shoulda changed it when i rebuilt motor but I was my loan limit if u know what i mean. thanks for all the suggestions, Me doing none of them cost that mch and im sure made it run better
I know right? Im not crying tho, bikes running great, never ran this good since I had it. Acted up when first got it and I changed the relays when first got it and straightened out for two yrs... When I went to swapping the pickup today would not have thot it would be the reason. Till I got it apart, and took the mounting bracket off the module?/ I wouldnt have guessed. I figured I was changing parts to change them. course wasnt much else to change. I have a complete wiring harness main and front I am going to put in the shed and Not forget what it is for.
