Default Update

Update: After Two long months, I have finally ridden the bike again after arriving home from a work trip overseas.

Turns out it was a combination of a loose throttle grip (you think your twisting when only the grip is twisting) and old fuel . At first she ran really rough, but then put some new fuel in her and she ran really sweet. Not bad after sitting for 8 years (indoors tho)

Im changing all the oil in her today, and cant wait to ride. Will post new pics too soon.

Thumbs up

Great news! It's wonderful when 'problems' prove simple to solve.

I would change the ignition to a dyna and dump the vacuume advance. Vacuume advance leads to many problems and poor running. Deffinatly go cam & bearings and change all the rubber hoses. Spray some either around the intake to see if it's leaking, it will rev if it is. Mostly cheap fixes. Nice bike.

Being the owner of 4 twin cams ( 2 A's and 2 B's) they dont stand a chance against my EVO FXRS. End of story.

Thanks for the tips Aces. I already have an EV27 cam and bearing in my bedroom which I plan to fit at some point. Bike only has 3500 miles from new so I hope the INA bearing will hold up for another few thousand miles

Jkay, The "vacuum advance" is actually a VOES which stands for Vacuum Operated Elictrical Switch. It's function is to retard the timing under heavy load/ low vacuum. This allows you to run more advance for better power without getting detonation under heavy load with today's fuel. I have a 120" EVO that puts out 142 HP 154 Ft LBS torque with a VOES hooked up.

If looking to establish more from an 80"er w/o breaking the bank, install either a Wood 6, or the overlooked Andrews 3, a good valve job/re-surface, tighten the squish up, and tune it.
76-80 hp, and 85-90 ft/lbs is within reach, and fuel economy will come up, as long as your not hammering on it constantly.
Have 4 of those-type builds in here now.

What happens when you lose the VOES, vacuume or switch etc? ALOT. Just another unnecessary thing to go wrong and tear up an engine. The Dyna S ignition will illiminate & solve that vacuume headache and be more dependable than any stock ignition, not to mention a preformance gain. Just saying.

Cam bearings [ torrington] are super cheap. Go ahead and change them with the cam. I dont mean any harm but I not a fan of those super chargers, I think an open filter works better. All and all I like the looks of that bike and would invest in it not to mention it's no milage.

Im not too big a fan of the superchargers either. It came with the bike and I plan on getting something else to replace it.

However even if I did like it I wouldnt have taken any offence ......

Im really happy with the bike. Thanks again for all the tips and info
