Yeah, fit an oil light and if it goes out stop worrying....my old wideglide came with an oil pressure gauge....it went in the bin the same day.

Default unorthadox ?

Sorry grbrown ... didnt mean to get any !s going here.
I just meant that as regular engines go .. an oil pres. gauge install is a common request .
Im learning here , but HD is the first i have come across that actually discourages the use of oil pres. gauges etc.???
The HD oil pres. warning lamp sender unit must be a one of a kind ?
Am i correct here ?

Its the same as any other near enough, more than 4psi and the light goes out. Most motors with a gauge run shell bearings, they need 20-40psi at idle and the consequences of pressure drop are almost instant.

A ball bearing motor just needs enough flow to get the bearings wet and enough pressure to get up to the rocker gear.

My comment is not entirely serious! I only pass on the observation that oil gauges on Harleys are a distraction and cause some owners a lot of anxiety. There are dozens of threads on HDF about them, with people like me explaining why Harleys don't show high oil pressures, for example once they are up to running temperature.
