I have my bike, 84 ElectraGlide Classic,Evo Motor ,apart gonna put in new lifters because of a loud tick in the motor. I ordered new gaskets to put everything back together. I have also pulled the rocker box cover off just to have a look inside. My question is...is there any way to "look" at a push rod to check if its bent? They look straight to me..I rolled them around on my work bench lookin for wobble. Dont look like there is alot of wear on them either. Is there anything I need to look at while I have this thing apart? My cam looks good too as far as I can tell. No visible groove or wear marks. This is my first time doing this so any advice would be helpful..thanks!

Inspecting the cam lobes for wear is important, which you've done. I had a bad lobe in mine at about 60 or 70K. I wouldn't worry about the push rods too much. If they look straight, they probably are.

Ok Thanks Dr.Hess. This tick is driving me crazy. Sometimes it sounds like its coming apart.Sometimes it quits all together. I have looked at the valve springs too.Some one said to me earlier I may have a broke spring. I cant tell much about them but they arent broken. Also Ive read that there are some oil passages that are very important to check for blockages when u take one apart like this. Can anyone tell me where they are and how to check them please? I have a few day before my parts arrive so I have some time.

Evo's make some noise. Some valve noise is just part of the experience. I don't know what yours sounded like so I can't comment on it. I don't know what oil passages might get blocked. The lifter screen is clean, right? And you're not using full synthetic oil are you? Full synthetic in my bike makes it sound like it's coming apart.

Can't youtube at work (firewalled). Can't youtube at home (not enough bandwidth.) Sorry. Hard to tell without being next to the bike as well. What direction the mike is in, proximity to the source, etc. Did you try to locate the noise with a mechanic's stethoscope or a big screwdriver?

Have you considered running something like the Andrews fully adjustable pushrods. That was you do not have to pullrocker covers to take out pushrods. Went with that and an EV 27 cam.

Probably the best gaskets out there are Cometic followed by James (just my opinion obviously). Neither are cheap but I think it beats the heck out of the normal cheapo ones.

I have adjustable push rods. I just pulled the cover to look inside to make sure I didn't have slack in the rocker arms or anything obviously broken rattling around in there.

I used a screw driver and it was coming from the front of the front rocker box best I could tell. sounded like valve...
