I bought my '95 with 42k on the ticker. It had400 mileson a new factory reman engine and front to back service. Given the way I ride and maintain mine, I would expect an easy 100K+
One of my best friends is PHD cert.(last worked in 02). He swears that Synthetic oils are to slick for Evo's.But he saysas long as you do the scheduled maintenance an Evo engine should go 100,000 to 150,000 before any major workneeds done.
My 3rd Harley is gonna be my last for a while. 94 FXSTC,SE Heads. Complete rebuild top andbottom. Every moving part on the bike was replaced. I've only got 4500 miles on it, so i've got a long way to go.
I use HD 20-50, Bel-Ray Gear Saver in the tranny and the formula+ in the Primary.
My 86 glide is now at 187000, took her down at 140000 to repaint it , ended up with it all the way to the frame to be powdercoated , the guy taking it down for me went ahead and replaced gaskets for the jugs, said all looked fine in the cylinders , went ahead and changed the rings, heads were fine and no bottom end slack. Have a friend with a 1987 with over 200000 without a major overhaul and still runs fine.
If you take care of anything, it will take care of you. That friend I told you about, he's got a 74 FLHP he bought in 75 at police auction. had 100K on it when he started, and he's put 250,000 on it since. He's re-built it once, but that old girl is still going... He's never touched the tranny, and she still shifts good..!
I got a '93 ultra ,and had a lifter come apart at almost 50k.man it made a nasty knockin noise. Went for the harley reman deal and now have 25k on the reman. Have a ev-27 cam with se breather and mufflers from a '01. runs real good. broke it in on dino then went to syn. hopeing to get over 100k on her. but the lifters make me nervous.
As I have said on other threads, I lost OEM lifters at 50K and 100K, luckily without damaging anything but the cam. After the second one, I replaced them with Crane lifters. I think any aftermarket lifters are better than the stockers.
I had over 150,000 miles on my stock 80" Evo before it needed rebuilding. Thought it was a good time to put the 100" Evo in the bike soI traded it for a New BDL internal Belt drive set up andnew chrome handle bar controls. After 50,000 miles on the 100", the crank bearing went out. It's rebuild and running again.
I read an artical several years ago about a guy who had over 400.000 miles on an EVO. His local shop opened up the motor at 200,00 to look inside. It didn't need any work done they were just curious. HD suppose to of traded him a new bike for that one so that they could dissasemble it and see what they did right.
