I have a 90 fltc, when i hit the starter button and hold it, there will be a pause sometimes, then she fires up... my buddy has the same bike but a 89, and his fires rite away... what could be causing this and is this even an issue? thanks
Welcome., im assuming that when you say " it fires up " you mean it turns over.?
If this is so ... your dealing with switches, wiring and a starter that are 23 years old.
1) clean the switches by disconnecting the bat. and spray your choice of cleaner into each switch , cycle the switches while spraying the cleaner into them until they drain clear liquid, blow out the switches with comp. air or lung power.
2) check/clean all connections in the start circuit.
3) bypass the start circuit and " hot wire " the starter to ensure the starter is not the culprit.

my 85 has been doing the same thing since it was new in 85. does it always start after the pause? if it starts it ain't broke. if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Yes it starts after the pause... im going to try some things thats wierd it did that bagga the whole time, i noticed on another fltc it fires and starts rite away...

It is a common issue. Just have to have a little patience. If you want to check something, take your ignition out. look at the back of it for grease that melted down to the terminals. clean them off. Probably will fix the problem. Did on my FLHS. Now, the FXR still does this once in a great while. Not enough to worry about it. Plus I was chasing other gremlins when I found that. Another thing to do... ground your turn signals with a wire to the frame in the back. Will save your turn module. Harley has the ground going thru the housing to the fender to the frame... My module bit the dust which got me to ohming out circuits. Its not hard. Just run a wire from one of the bolts on the back of the light bar to the bolt that mounts the fender to the frame. Had an excellent right turn with the module when this was complete. Ended up making my own harness with 2 flashers installed. One for each side. Made it so if I ever came across another module, just plug it in. Good luck! Trucker Gary
