Chevy Impala driving by some dickweed pulls out in front of me doing 45mph. Now it's 11:30 pm, I've got the headlight burning, I'm wearing a saftey yellow jacket with the reflective silver stripes, and he 'doesn't see me???? Couldn't change lanes, another car off my left, had to 'lock er up' and hope for the best. Luckily I was anticipating this moron pulling out, and he didn't disappoint me.

And that kind of thinking is what keeps the really good riders riding....Good job.
Been riding for 40 years and the last one to hit me was an old lady left turning into her driveway. She was looking directly into my eyes and smiled at me as she turned.
She explained that she didnt see me and was totally befuddled as to why i would be riding towards her when she wanted to turn.
These days , if your gonna ride just be sure to keep the medical and life insurance premiums paid up !
Our motorcycles of today are alot safer than they use to be....better brakes compared to the old drum. The lighting is better also...remember the crappy 6 volt system.
The problem is....there are ALOT more vehicles on the road nowdays. Plus they all have cell phones and might be texting. Plus any vehicle made in the past 10 years is so quiet that you can't hear anything outside. I am going to venture to say that most drivers are oblivious to anything outside of their car.
Once upon a time....if you were on the highway and saw healights. You knew it was a motorcycle. Then vehicle manufactures started to install running headlights on their cars so headlights stay on all the time. So....now we just blend in!!
It's dangerous out there.....we all just have to continue our highway awareness attitude and be safe.

When folks in cages are pulling out onto another street, hwy, road, etc., they are looking for the absence of cages, not the presence of bikes. I always ride with spot lights on hopefully giving myself a little better chance of being seen. I know they see the lights, but they just don't see the bike. Until people become aware that those lights are attached to a motor vehicle, albeit small, they'll always be trying to run us over.
