Default 89 inch stroker opinions.

Building an 89 inch stroker. Looking for advice as to what cam, compression etc to go with. Will be using all the usual good stuff like 2-1 pipe, headwork, DTT ignition but am on the fence about going mild or wild. Would like to hear from guys who have done and had experience with 89 inches. TIA, Dave.

had a 89" shovel, it used to east 80" evos for breakfast

89" option is possibly the best bang for your buck in terms of $ spent and horsepower increased

Take a look at the "wild" and you'll find that they generate a lot of HP at high RPMs. That's all fine if that's where you want to ride. Target your cam to develop peak HP at the RPM ranges you actually ride at and you'll probably end up saving yourself a whole pile of $$ and grief.

Bike is a 97 Dyna Convertible. My riding style is usually fast and hard but starting to re- think this as have had a few close calls with the law. Also ride with mostly 95 inch Twin Cams so don't want to under- cam . Cruiser with ***** sounds good Cowboy 51. I was looking at the Woods W6, not 6H, the Andrews EV51 and the DME530. Was thinking 10:1 for both the Mackie and Woods cams and maybe 10.2:1 for the EV51. Afraid of the EV 51 being soft in the bottom and the other two dieing off too soon. Anyway that's why I am looking for some feedback from someone who has ran one of these cams. Would like to stay away from high compression and really big cams. I've done all that and there definitely is a trade off. Want something with a bit more street manners.

Been hammering a 89" for 6 years with a W6H 10.0-1, heads matched and solid as a rock in all conditions that bounces a 6400 rev limiter. If your a Mackie fan the DM580 is a darkhorse with less stress on the the valve train than the Woods, the 580 will also live and not soft on the bottom at 10.0-1.

W6 will pull extremely hard early and fall off, would be nice to have a light bike go a little deeper into the rpm's. Check out the numbers of the DM580, really liked that cam until I came across a Woods W6H for $40, not much difference between the 2 in power except the 580 goes slightly deeper/stronger with more duration.

1997 bagger. I was looking at the 6H and the Mackie 580 at first b4 I was thinking about going a bit milder. Do both of these require roller rockers? Maybe I should just go with one of these two.Honestly I don't know if I will be happy with a mild cam. Is 10.2: 1 ok for the Mackie cam ? Just wouldn't want it to be soft in the bottom.

I built a 89" evo with 4 5/8 truett and osbourne flywheels, branch evo heads, s&s stroker pistons ( 5 over ) and a Comp Cams 3050 cam. Oh and a Super E with a dyna programmable ignition. It flew! beat everyone I rode with. Pulled hard and fast. You will love it. No twinkie can compete.

sounds like 1997bagger has it set up right , but your dyna is a couple hundred pounds lighter , woods does make a good cam & from what I here you can call or email them your info & riding style & they can give you a good idea of what cam to run
