Default Right oil filter?

98 wg dealer gave me a 63796-77a.
The old one is long, new is short.
Is this wrong, manual does not specify.

Both work. I like the long filters. More capacity more media.

Agreed. I get the right Wix for my 97 Evo from O'Reilly's. The price is right, it is a good filter, it is longer than what came on it, and it is available locally.

If you want the long filter, go to the Toyota dealer and tell them you want an oil filter for a Lexus V8 (LS400). For the short filter, tell them Toyota 22R (RN Truck).

On my 98 WG I use K&N long chrome & have been for years. The nut on the end of it makes it very easy to get off. My 98 WG parts manual says HD#63813-90(chrome) for all models that year.

I would not use a car filter on a Harley...I lost an Ironhead that way.
