Went on a run this past w/e and had to deal with a few issues. First, I noticed that the oil level in the tank is rising. Primary to engine seal's going out. When you hit the starter and the dip stick flies out followed by oil.....sum'n ain't right.
Then the starter starts sounding like a bunch of rocks in a blender! CRAP! It's still turning the motor, it just ain't pretty. I get it tore down yesterday to find the jackshaft gear's missing three of ten teeth and the ring gear is chewed up.
I swing my my indy and he loans me some tools and knowledge, off I go. I cannot, for the life of me, get the freak'n compensating nut off! Impact gun = no, breaker bar w/ 3' cheater pipe = denied!
Anyone got any tricks to get it off? Are the 94's a reverse thread or something? Gotta get it done to head out for the Lone Star Rally.
it needs a good impact wrench - we have an air operated snap on 950 LBS - but before that we would put heat to the big nut, get it good and hot / it might have red lock tight on it -- johnjzjz
Yep, the book says two drops of red loc-tite, but some people think a gallon is better!!! I've had them where I had to grind the nut off of the end and then split the rest to get it off.
John
Yea, I figured it has some red loc-tite in there and heat would be needed. I just hate doing that w/ electronics. behind that cover. I might load it on a trailer and hit up the local auto garage and see if I can borrow a good impact gun. Mine's just a junky one.

If I were you (and I was at one point in time) I would just get a better impact gun. I also had to buy a bigger air compressor.
They are not that expensive for a good one.
You will also need a torque wrench that reads 165 pounds.
My indy is allowing me to invade his shop and use his stuff to get it off. He always gives me his "specialty/homemade tools" that make HIS life easier for me to use so I can do most of my own stuff. Not one time have I ever felt that his place has their hands in my pocket. It's hard to find someone you trust.
