Had a TC with a 5 speed tranny (same as an Evo) turn up this morning, the bike is immaculate and the owner uses a pressure washer to keep it that way.
He has a whine from the gearbox at only 25,000 miles.
Pulled the tranny drain plug out and an egg cup full of water dropped into the catch pan, followed by an oily emulsion the colour of a Latina's breasts...
I am going to have to replace all the tranny bearings now.
Dudes, if you are going to pressure wash your bikes you should plug the tranny vent, or better still...don't use a pressure washer.
The only place I use a water blaster is on the driveway concrete...I don't even use a hose when I clean my bike...but then again it's not immaculate, but who cares.....
Good tip... I noticed this years ago on my WG when my dad would wash it as much as ride it.. The bike is also spotless to this day.. Anyhow, what I did was relocate the vent. S&S makes a bent(formed) fuel line, roughly 12-18" long with a 90 degree bend at one end.. I put the 90 at the tranny and ran the other end up under the seat. Havent had an issue since, basically an old everglades buggy trick, run your vents high and dry, you wont get any water in them..
Been more than one set of wheel bearings ruined the same way too.
That's what I was thinking. My bike has been to two car washes with high pressure hoses in the 20+ years I've owned it. And both times I never had the wand closer than 3-4 feet from the bike. Absolutely never anywhere near the wheel bearings.

It's not a good idea to use a pressure washer on anything with paint on it that you like, either. Hard on it. I see guys pressure washing the snot out of their beloved vehicles and cringe. Regular garden hose w/ spray nozzle is good enough. When I do wash my bike I use a super fine mist spray, and keep the usage to an absolute minimum.
Like others have said, you won't believe where water can get w/ a little force behind it!
