Nah mate, its dead easy if you have both wiring diagrams. Sometimes the main difference is that one year uses two feeds and another the two wires link up and there is only one feed.
Even without the diagrams you can work it one wire at a time and just look inside the new switches to see what goes where.
Lots of people think wiring is more difficult than it is but if you can turn a garden hose on and off then you can understand basic wiring as its the same principle.

Some folks just cant get their mind around the "voodoo" and run away terrified....
Can anyone tell me how to wire late model 1996 handle bar switches to 1990 softtail harnes?
The late model switches have less wires
Help
I did it on my '90 Softail...Not difficult to see which wire is for which....I ended up cutting and splicing and soldering the '96 up harness because the pins are different too, would have had to run a new main if I didn't do it this way... What I did was cut the power feed from the brake light switch that supplies power to the signal in the 96-up harness and ran a green wire through the harness back to the signal connector making it a 7 wire harness like original same with the clutch side, clipped the pigtail in the 6 wire harness at the switches and ran the 7th wire for left signal back to the connector block between the tanks...
Most of the new harness with the stripes are the same color as your original solid colors(the stripes match the solid colors except for 1 if I remember correctly...but just look at your old switch wiring and new wiring and match them up...
Basically all you have to do is run green signal lead to both signal switches, splice ,solder and heat shrink...when you compare the old and new switches and wiring,it's easy to see what goes where...
It's been a few years since I did it and I lost the color codes...but if you have any more questions,I think I can help you out...
