EV13 may be your best chance of a cam that helps and may not need any fuel altering but not in stone, the M&M uses a engine temperature sensor as a base for alterations and no exhaust sampling.

You can try the EV13 and listen for detonation which is a marble sound to see where the engine is on fuel, if you hear the marbles when accellerating then you need more fuel. The new bikes run leaner from the factory than this setup but I'm not a fan of heat.

EV13, EV27, Vthunder 3010, 3020 or a other compression building cams with a Powercommander 3 USB and a dyno tune is "safe" This is the best solution for peace of mind but also the most expensive but replacing the motor will cost more than this option.

Screamin Eagle made a Stage 3 package that is a SE3 cam, larger red injectors, air filter and a flash module that has to be downloaded by a dealer, it is made for that bike and works well, find it ebay because HD wants too much money for it.

Installing red injectors with the cams mentioned should also get the job done without map alteration because the Stage 3 flash module only raises the rev limiter is the change I understood was made.

Good info 1997 bagger. I'm considering an EV-27 in my '98 and if it will work just fine with the red injectors only, I'm in.

Default cam change

The EV-27 is a great cam.I have a `97 roadking and installed EV-27 cam,PC3,samson fish tail slip ons open air box, adjustable push rods and a dyno tune. The bike is night and day.I gained about 17 real HP and uped the torque quite a bit.Best mod ever on my RK. Much quicker than my 88TC electraglide.Go 4 it,you won`t be sorry.Skip

The ECM is receiving input from the engine temperature sensor and the intake air temp sensor so injector pulse is controlled basically by temperature, this means the ECM is altering injector pulse by temperature and has no idea how much fuel is being injected at each pulse, red injectors should get the job done just like increasing jet sizes.

I had the Stage 3 with the SE3 which is a EV27 and red injectors when my bike was purchased and worked well. It put enough fuel in at cold start up it would put slight black smoke out until the ECM went out of cold mode when blipping the throttle so fuel is being delivered, just gotta watch that ETS for working properly for fuel control.

Thank you 1997 bagger!

The motor is completely stock with American Custom slip ons. Like the interchangeable baffles. I bought the bike 2 years ago with 24K on it and It now has just over 47K on it. Runs great, average 43-46 mpg.

I have been reading some older threads here and realize that the lifters need to be done then as well. Seems the adjustable push rods maybe the way to go as we'll.

I had a conversation with one of our local indie and he had talked about the Cobra 2000i as well. I did read an older thread where you were not that impressed with that tuner.

We also had talked about the EV 13 cam and and you said the same as he about may run a little leaner than it should.

I just don't want to mess anything up. "If it's not broke, don't fix it".....

Thank you again for your knowledge!

Factorybuilt.

The Cobra will work in your in your situation, I'm a fan of being able to control timing adjustments and a PC3 can do that plus more precise on a dyno, you are not heading into that area where timing needs changed
