Another noob (to these new-fangled Evos) question.
What touches down first during hard cornering on the Road King and Electra Glide models of this era?
Since I firmed up the suspension and put some brakes on the bike, I am now getting enough progress through the twisties that the kickstand has touched down a couple times. But the spring is weak and it flops around a bit and sticks out, so no dramas there.
But just wondering if I push it much further, what hits the tarmac first?
The footboads, like on the older models? (Mine are on the lowest setting for my Grasshopper long legs).
Or is it some of the "hard furniture" like crashbars or frame rails that might jack a tire off the ground and cause nastiness?
Would be nice to have the hinged footboards as an early warning system but don't really want to test it out on the local goat-tracks around here.
So do I, but still had the side stand touch down and it just made me wonder.
(And the real nuttiness is touring cross country on my Ironhead. Doh!)
But I have to say that since I put in the good suspension and brakes, I am quite surprised at how much you can heel these touring bikes over without dramas.
Not sport bike levels, but quite respectable for a big lump of a touring bike.
my RK will tap the rear floorboard mount/slip on on the right side, and now that I've worn the bracket down a bit I've managed to knife-edge the floorboards on both sides. left side, kickstand (with weak spring) and floorboard/bracket
Kickstand may hit some, mine has the drive off center stand that will hit pretty easy if its not all the way up, but floorboards are what I've noticed..
Here's a couple videos you may find entertaining..
I was asked this question about Sporties today in a pub and I told the guy that on a Sportster, if something is scraping then you have already fallen off...

Ever wonder why the rear pipe on old Ironhead Sporties kicks upwards instead of level? The muffler tip is the first thing to touch down on the right if it is not kicked up. On the left, usually the peg/toe of your boot.
Thanks for all the good info and videos guys. Made me feel a lot more confident I won't do this:
Unless I try real hard.
