So this article is saying the VOES needs to be functioning even at higher RPMs like whenever you open the throttle to climb a hill at 60 mph?

Ok, made an appointment with a new super Indy. He's going to check timing, put in a new VOES and a new Ultima adj curve ignition & single fire coil... That should take care of it but If needed I will go up one intermediate jet size. I'm not to sure this isn't rocket science.
Thanks for every ones input.

we have found that todays fuel is so bad you need to retard the static timing - instead of using the TDC line in the center we are moving it to the front of the hole to stop the hot rods from pinging AND yest it takes power out BUT it will make the motor run cooler and it will last 36 / 38 degrees is too much timing today with the fuel we have to use - i have set some as low as 28 degrees to fix the issue but they are big power units

Beemervet - information is the key to sucess - thanks - johnjzjz

Seem I got some poor info from my original Indy. My new Indy is for installing the VOES.
Thanks John, Ill pass on that info to him.
Called HD and they don't stock the VOES for 97 dyna. I understand they are "HG-4 lbs vacuum" for my dyna. Any one have a new one laying around?

Here is the VOES from DK. I think I need the 4" vacuum one. Does anyone know for sure?

My understanding is that on a high compression motor you might benefit from a VOES that is set to switch at a higher vacuum level, holding off advance until you get higher up in rpm's to avoid detonation. This may not apply if you will be using a fully progammable ignition though.
Good thing is you can always adjust it higher if you need to.

My questionable jingle is at 3000 rpm which may be fixed with one jet larger intermediate. But my new Indy said I would benefit from a VOES and the ultima adj curve ignition. I understand all of this but making it all tune up together is above my pay scale. The question is do I need a 4 or 5 lb Voes with my build. I would think 4 lb would be fine with the ADJ ignition.
