Default Overflow drain hose route?

While working on one thing I discovered another thing. I have the older touring one piece tank (1988). It has a drain from the area where the filler and the sending unit are located. The drain was clogged and so gas was dripping over the side and staining my tank. Also, the hose for the drain was missing. I cleaned out the line and connected some fuel line as a drain but.. I can't figure out where that drain line should be routed. It's mighty crowded down there where the other hoses and drains run.

Can someone tell me how/where to route this hose?

Mine just runs down behind the rear lifter blocks and down past the oil pump. As long as it ends up under the bike instead of on top, it really doesn't matter how it's routed.

I looked at that route but though that maybe the drain line was going to be too close to the rear cylinder exhaust header pipe. One thing's for sure.. Since I unglogged the line I have to run the rubber hose or it will puke gas on the rear cylinder and spark plug.

I don't think it should be puking gas like that. Something else is going on. That over flow should not be over flowing on a continual basis.

I routed it the way you suggested, down, around the rear cylinder and down between the case and transmission. Looks like a good route. It doesn't puke all the time. I almost always top off the tank before I park in the garage. I think the gasket for the fuel tank sending unit was leaking (that's been replaced). Also, I have a bad habit of filling the tank with as much gas as it will hold. Anyway, the factory overflow drain is now fixed so, I'm in good shape on that.

Thanks for responding. I really appreciate the help a lot.

Glad you got it sorted out. I only fill mine to about an inched below the mouth of the tank, never had an overflow problem. Sounds like your overflow is doing what it's supposed to do.
