Default difference between early and late top end gasket sets

Hey fellas,

going to eventually rebuild my evo, I have it all tore down but was curious what gasket set to order, 92 and earlier or 92 and later. I have a 89 bottom breather lower end and have screamin eagle top breather heads. Anyone know the difference with the earlier and later sets? Thanks

The later. Although ive used both. With top breather rocker boxes you should use the top breather rubber gaskets. Although i too have a bottom breather lower and top breather rocker boxes 93 and up. And i use cork gaskets. Could never get the rubbers to seal as well. I have even managed to get some cork top breather gaskets. Though they are far and few between and ive used pre 93 gaskets on breathers(not recommended). Most folks are fine with the top breather rubbers. The outside shape of the gaskets are the same pre 92 and 93 up but the top breathers have some additional material shaped to seal around the return passages and the umbrella valves. And most folks use steel for the lowest of the top end gaskets, Head to cylinder. Somebody feel free to correct any misinformation i may have given.

we use a blend in my shop - the newest rubber gaskets from Harley are very good and almost never leak - than we use the cometic tin for the base the head and the lower rocker box - that is what i use in my shop it makes no sense for us to do the job over for free for the few bucks different it costs to buy the right stuff ONCE
