Hi guys, I'm having an issue with my new 2021 Fat Boy.
My issue is that I've learned that the H.D. tuner I installed is not adequate for the Bassani pipes and H.D. "Ventilator" air cleaner I installed. The dealer wants to prove to me with a dyno test that's it's all good. I don't care about H.P. and toque (although I don't expect to lose either with my changes) but rather I made the changes for sound improvement.
My question is; will a dyno test show loss or gain of fuel mileage, too rich a condition, too lean a condition, compression, or anything else that indicates engine health? I don't want the dealer to show me greater than stock H.P. or torque on a dyno graph at the expense of a poor functioning engine. "Close" is not good enough, so I need to know things are right.
IMHO, best bet is to get a real tuner (TTS or PV) and take it to a real dyno guy. The HD tuner can only load factory maps, as far as I recall, and I’m not sure how much data the dealer can and would show.
A real dyno guy can show you everything about the tune, tweak it to fit your objectives, and manipulate tables and elements which can’t be touched with the HD tuner.
As stated, the SE tuner is all that is available for 2021 models so far. You did not mention what you learned to indicate the tuner is not sufficiently adjusting the fuel supply to your combination of AC and pipes, but let the dealer put it on the dyno. Yes, you will see torque and horsepower curves, but more importantly will be the air/fuel line at the bottom of the chart. This will show where the tuner is keeping the mixture relative to the ideal target (between 13.1-14.1, I believe) and thus can prove whether the tuner is really doing it's job. It will look something like this:
I really wish that people would learn to know what they are talking about, BEFORE they post their incorrect info on boards like this one.
the TechnoResearch Direct Link can tune 2021 bikes.
the info posted posted about the SE tuner is incorrect, it does not just load HD built calibrations. It is not necessarily the best option to use because of its limitations to keep it EPA compliant.
info gained from dyno testing and tuning can be invaluable!! The dyno operator must know what tests to run and how to interpret the data, and not all tuners are created equal. Make some calls annd donyour homework on tuners in your area, then take it in and get it evaluated.

A good dyno session can show you in almost any rpm and tps where you are are at compared to your target. Collecting this data and presenting it to someone that doesn't really understand is the challenge. The thing with 2021 calibrations with the SE tuner is that you can only compare the target table to what it is indicating. Since it shoots for closed loop target most of the calibration. The stock o2's should pull it in. Problem comes with what is target during the other modes besides closed loop? SE doesn't give you access to some other tables that control these other modes like PE mode. So, it can be doing exactly what it is suppose to be doing and doing it correctly but that doesn't mean that the calibration is set up the most ideal way in the first place.
