Default SE stage 1 kit question

Sept 06 I had my local dealer install the SE stage 1 kit on my 2000 FXDS. When I paid the bill they gave me the receipt and a cleaning/oiling kit for the filter. The K&N filter has the blue band around it. Last week while I had the bike down for maint, I washed the filter according to instructions, let it dry, then oiled it. Its back on the bike now and Ive only put about 25 miles on it. Now on this site I see the blue banded filter is non cleanable and not recommended for oiling! I wonder why my dealer gave me the cleaning kit with it then? Question is... will this cleaned/oiled filter hurt my bike? Im leaving this Fri for a 1,000 mile road trip and dont want ANY problems in this area.

The SE filter is a washable filter, but not to be oiled, or in common terms "junk". The K&N filter (much better) is to be washed and oiled. You shouldn't have any problems, just might not get the air (which equates to power) into the bike.

Thanks Dawg. Maybe Ill pull the filter off and clean it with water and the cleaner again. Put it back after drying.

There have been numerous reports of the "blue" filter coming apart when HD used them in the past. IE Holes coming in it soon after cleaning. HD used these filters in there SE kit for a couple years around 04 then switched back to the K&N in there kit. I guess they are trying to cheap out again. I would call K&N and see if they make a replacement filter for it and be done with it. I believe they do unless HD changed backing plate reciently.
