Default Pipe delima

OK - so I'm new with Harleys and new to the site. I did do some searches on straight pipes but thought I would beat the dead horse once more...

I just picked up an 05 Fatboy, it came with SEII exh., a 42mm carb and SE Air element from the delaer. My buddies all have bikes with custom pipes so the first thing I do is order some nice pipes from Grumpys - Very nice pipes!! but - (ok go ahead) I dont pay attention and buy straight pipes.... So I like loud and my neighbors, well lets just say they are louder. The sound is not an issue, I cant wait to hear them!! I am a bit worried about the following;

Loss of performance. I know, it's gonna happen but I also know you can do some stuff to help. I was going to do the lolli pop thing and/or go for some thunder monster slip in's. I wont know the diff since I havent been ridding for ever (i guess)

Need for re-jetting. Going into the dark here. Dont know if I need to re-jet the carb or not?

Also thought about just e-baying the pipes and getting something better suited (?). But I love the looks of these pipes!!

Well watcha think??

If you want a loud drag style 2-2 pipe that actually is a great performer, look at the Bassai Pro-Street exhausts.

Anytime you make a parts change you should always make sure your carb is tuned properly.

wholly crap!!![sm=badbadbad.gif]

I just mounted them and went for a quick (chilly) spin round de block. HEE HEE HEE - freeking sounds awsome!! Didnt go far enough to see if I had any performance issues but god I love that sound. Think I'll find a way to get the best of them. I'll have to post a pic tomorrow of my new ride!

In the top section of this forum is a post called, "Drag Pipe How-To". It'll have some info for you, and some cures for the loss of low-midrange torque you now have. You've already mentioned the lollipops and thunder monsters, so maybe you have a handle on it. Rejetting will probably be a necessity, but that depends on what pipes the drags are replacing.
