Default Lifter Bore Scoring

Is it at all common for one of the lifter bores in a TC motor to have a slight amount of scoring? The lifter slides nicely, no hang-ups or anything, and doesn't seem to have excessive clearance. I replaced the lifters in my TC95, and one of the bores has what I would call fine "scratches" that you can barely feel with a fingernail. I put the new lifters in and buttoned her up. Just curious if you wrenches have seen this?

I don't know about a fingernail but I read somewhere that the human finger can detect a 0.001in. difference. Think about the streatch wrap roll that is always up nice and tight around the roll.
What ever thats all worth.

One thing to look for when you see this. You need to measure the bore of the case, and then the lifter you are using. If this is out of spec you will need to hone the bore and use a over size lifter. Many times we see this when the customer will say that he has ticking from his engine. Now i know that many say I have built dozens of engines, but many times these same guys do not take the time to measure every item. Rocker shaft bores, rocker end play, tdc height, lift bore to lifter, . These items are a must check deal. In the end you are better off as you know that each of these are checked and that the issue ( if you have any) is easy to figure out.

Thanks Wrench. I hear ya about people not checking things. When I did this lifter swap, I was checking rocker end play, shaft OD and Arm ID, etc. My bowels got loose when I noticed this lifter bore, I was thinking maybe the case is scrap. After checking the fit of the new lifter (very nice), I thought it would be fine, but wondered A) how did the scratches get there and B) how long before the whole thing turned into scrap. I've put a couple thousand miles on her since, and no noticeable issues yet. Also, how easy is it to get O/S lifters? Never heard of such a thing......
