Recently purchased an 06, carburated, Streetglide. I just turned over 1000 miles and bike is now in for the '1000 mile' service. The problem I'm having is the front cylinder seems to be running hot. I first noticed the front pipe between the break in heat shields below the footrest turning a golden brown. Further inspection found the pipe up by the engine to be blue/purple turning to blue/gold as it goes down. The pipe on the rear cylinder is still chrome from the head all the way down. No discoloration. All this progressively started happening from about 300 miles and up. Before I go any further, I know how to break in a Harley. I was very careful! If anything maybe too careful. First 50 miles below 60 and 2500 rpms, 50 to 500, below 70 and 3000 rpms. It was never dogged during the breakin period.
The service mgr and some of the techs gave various reasons. Mgr first said that all the 06's do that. They run hot from the factory because of the new emissions in effect. If so, why is mine the only one with this problem. He then said there was probably a light coat of oil over the exhaust or maybe a leak in the manifold???? Could the cylinder be damaged as a result??
Can anyone shed some light on this!!
