07 and above have new very big primary systems. The front sproketBARELY fits inside the cover. The chain going around can hit the first bolt boss around the front on the bottom. There is even a small clearance flat machined here from HD. My 08 fatboy needed a little more clearance. Use a drimmle with small cutter.
If you take off the primary cover you will see, more that likely, marks where it hits. Gasket is good for several uses if you are careful with it.
Other than this the primary is solid as a rock with a very good tensioner. It is self adjusting and spring loaded so there may be times when there is a tiny bit of slack.
I think it is a common problem cause I see complaints here all the time.
I sometime wonder if HD builds in worry for Customers and work for Dealers. Such a easy fix here.
My 08 got fixed by me cause I hate to have people tell me, as Rbabos said, "live with it". Or as, "never heard of that before". Or, "They all do that, spose to". And charge you $60 to do that?
The only noise I guess I'll have to live with is 5th gear in the transmission.
