I am goin to be picking up a new bike within a couple of weeks and was really thinking about goin with a complete 103 kit. But after reading on here I was thinking I can do a 98 as people say it is btter.
What would everyone reccomend for a motor? I am thinking the Ansil or whatever 98, gear driven cams, some sort of heads and cam work to get over 100HP in the mid to upper Rpms. Great for bar hopping, cruising and the occasional trip. This will be on an 06 deuce. It is an EFI bike if that matters.
I have seen lots on different heads, springs, gear driven cams etc.
I am also wanting a clean 2 into 2 exhaust. i just do nto like the 2 into 1 exhausts. I want somehting that looks good, and performs well. Pics owuld also be helpful on exhausts.
I would go with the 98" kit. HDWRENCH has a setup that he sells that a few people from the forum have had installed and they love it. With the 103 your stroking the motor which is said to drop the reliability a bit. Also cheaper because your not splitting the cases.
If you're going to stroke it, you might as well go with a largerthan 103 motor. The benefit of tearing the motor down is that you get to upgrade your crank bearing to a TIMKEN setup. The 98 kit is popular, and I haven't seen it, but it sounds like a real good way to go. When you swap to gear driven cams, make sure that you swap out the cam bearings to the Torrington style bearings, as they are WAY superior (my dealer had them!)
Not really, AS if the 95 kit was done the comp ratio will go from 8.9.1 stock to 9.1 so hard to tell with a compression test unless it has H/C pistons. You MAY be able to pull plug and look at piston is it is clean enough 1550 is stamped on the top. THat is a long shot though. I have bore scopes in before and could not read it but worth a shot, Or run the vin some dealers will behelpful there and they can check records other than tearing it down You are stuck.

Thank you for your reply. The dealer I got it from is sending all the records as well. I should find out then. I forgot to ask.
