I'm all set to install a Fatcat on Ultra. I don't have the instructions, but I've been told it's pretty straightforward. The only question I have is what's the best sequence for torquing everything?
sorry I dont have an answer for ya, but will watch this thread
I have a fat cat on the way...and have seen a few with posts with leakage problems and some who have not with the fat cat..
mabe one of the pro's around here can chime in?
You can use some hi -temp gasket maker like Permatex copper or black on the muffler to head pipe joint ( spread it sparingly around the ID of the muffler ) and be careful on how much you torque the muffler clamp.
"CRITICAL INSTALLATION NOTES" included in the kit:
(1) Torque for the muffler clamp to the collector is 150 in lbs or 12.5 ft lbs. This torque is critical to insure the muffler stays in place. Use a torque wrench
(2) If you are not going to use the O2 sensors in these head pipes, remove the plugs from the head pipe and clean off the anti seize. Use red lock tight and reinstall to prevent them from falling out.[/align]
I'm right in the middle of installing one. Does the head pipe mount on the top or the bottom of the tranny bracket?
Thanks,
Rick
Every bike is different.............some use the spacers under the saddlebag, some don't.........some go on top of the tranny bracket, some go under the tranny bracket.
For me, I didn't use any spacers and I went on top of the tab...............in the end just make sure everything is linear and straight from front to rear.
I put everything together, then start at the heads and tighten from there back. I used some high-temp copper gasket on the muffler/collector joint, took away the slight leak I had there.
It seems as though every bike is a bit different. My install using SE gasket didn't work for me, tried twice(lack of experience) however, the stock gaskets worked fine the first time around. The header for my 06 FLHR mounted on top of the tranny bracket and I used a small washer under the bag for the muffler. Do not over torque the muffler clamp and you should be golden. As above post states every thing needs to be straight.
