Default cam change problem

I finished doing the andrews roller chain conversion today. At least I thought I did. I used the 26n cams and adjustable pushrods. I followed the instructions and took my time and when I started the bike I got a lot of noise and no oil pressure on the gauge. Also changed inner cam bearings, lifters and oil pump by the way. Any idea where I may have made a mistake or forgot something? Thanks in advance for any answers.

I dont know how the old pumps are exactly but two things to I had to watch rebuilding my bike, which is now sorta like yours. "O" rings, 2 I think, and the pump has to be bolted (4 bolts) first and brought up againse the wave washer, just a few in. lbs. Then the engine turned over a few times. this centers the pump rotor in its cavity. Before final tightening sequense

I suggers go back in and look around. Not real hard to do after a time or two I found. Look at the pictures and instructions again. I did that 2 -3 times mostly because I'm old and forgetful and OCD. Gotta have oil pressure.

I bet you that you had the oil pump apart and reassembled it incorrectly. Take it aprt and look at your service manual and see otherwise you may have forgotten an oring but my money is on the pump Todd

My money says Duke has it right....too many people install one of the gyro separator plates between the feed gyro and cam plate which blocks off the oil from entering the cam plate.

I was hoping someone would say it had to run a bit first. I never disassembled the oil pump. I'm planning on readjusting the pushrods and just bumping the starter a few times with the plug wires off so it doesn't actually start but hopefully it will prime the oil pump. Let me know if that sounds like a bad idea. For now it's gotta wait till after work tomorrow afternoon. I'll check here first. Thanks again.

If you pre-lubed the oil pump with some assembly lube and aligned the pump with either alignment pins (which is recommended) or the rotation method and everything is assembled correctly you should have pressure.
After I completed my conversion I removed the fuse from the fuel injection system and plugs and turned it over until I got pressure. Note: When I got my pump they had the pump assembled incorrectly (as packaged)and I corrected it during assembly.

Well I had to re adjust one pushrod (so far) but I was able to run the bike and had 17 psi oil pressure at idle. Apparently I got scared and shut it down too quickly yesterday. It's hard to let a bike run with 0 oil pressure. But today after thinking it over I turned it over again without the plugs in 3 or 4 times and the oil light went out. So I put the plugs back in and it just sat there and ran fine. I haven't ridden yet because I was so happy to see the oil gauge register I decided to celebrate. A little too much for a test ride. I was content just letting it idle while having a( or 5 or 6) beer. So tomorrow I'll take er out for a ride and let you all know how it goes. Once again thanks for your help.

Went out for a little ride today. Definitely a little more pep. Not a whole lot but a noticable difference for sure, even in the sound out the exhaust. Everything seems fine but I keep wondering about those pushrods. Seems to be one of those things you hope is right but never really know for sure. They seem quiet enough though. Next year new pipes I think. And maybe a seat........
