Just replaced the accelerator pump on my Bendix Zenith and it still leaks. Am I missing something? It leaks when it runs and when its off with the petcok is in the off position. It's not the petcock, it's just leaking out what's in the bowl. Is the float set too high? I'm out of ideas.
Lower the float. The accelerator pump plunger is not really a seal, the bore it resides in is bled fuel up to the float level.
BUT i would check the float carefully for cracks, sometimes a slight crack will put uneven pressure on the needle, sometimes it will seat, sometimes not....
And sometimes someone will set the float to low for this reason. Then when you set it properly it will leak into the intake or out the ACC.pump
BTW the Bendix carb works really well with a Thunder JET. I wonder if you can still buy them ?
Thanks for the link - I checked the float and couldn't find any leaks - I submersed it water for 5 min and no bubbling and I couldn't hear anything inside. But I did lower the float about a 16th and it seems to have fixed the problem.
HI I just had a similar problem with a 40mm carb (leaking pump)this carb has a drilling from the float bowl to the pump above it actually , the 38mm carb i had previously did not. this drilling is below the level of the bowl vent that is in the side of the carb so it seems that if there is any flooding or high float level the fuel will actually vent to the fuel pump and spill over out of the boot area before it overflows out of the bowl vent. i plugged the small drilling in the bowl and have no trouble since and when i was mucking around with float heights any fuel that flooded went out the bowl vent like it should and not out the drilling to the pump. cheers kev
