Just loaded my bike to go out to Palm Springs with my girl. We just pull out the driveway and the bike idles a bit erratic, and then when I twist the throttle open it stalls. This happens every time I try to start out; the bike idles, then when I give it gas, it stalls.
To me it seems like a fuel isssue as the spark is there to help it at idle. I disconnected my PC3 thinking it may be that, but it still did the same thing directly routed to the bike. I hooked it back up, and still the same, so it isn't that ...
I am stumped, I think it is either ECU based, or Fuel delivery based, but I could use the diagnostic help.
So I come here to you all, looking for a bit of experienced opinion.
Any ideas?
Thanks, I will look at this post when I get back in a couple of days,It looks like I am caging it until then ...
RE: Bike Stalling when taking off from stops. Help!
Yes, it has gas in the tank, I just put in about 3 gallons to fill it. I am HOPING it isn't DIRTY FUEL ...[:@]
I took off the gas cap while it was idling to see if it may have a vapor lock impeding fuel delivery, but that wasn't it either.
Then I pushed it up my hill...
Phaakkkk!!![:@]
The bags are in the cage and my girl is ready, so. I guess I will have to enjoy the A/C ...
RE: Bike Stalling when taking off from stops. Help!
I have yet to hear of such an issue. if it started happening just after a fuel stop, I'd say it's bad gas.... it happened to my SUV once. I drained the gas and refilled and BAM, she ran smooth!
RE: Bike Stalling when taking off from stops. Help!
Id pull the fuel out of the tank and lines, as much as you can get rid of. check on any filters and see if the inside of the tank looks clean or if its possibly rusted anywhere or inside coating is peeling? Possibly bad gas or slow flow in the lines from restriction. giving you just enough fuel to keep it idling but not enough for take off power. I know that just this year on my 2005 FLHRSI I noticed the inside of the tank had a coating from the factory that seemed to be peeling off slightly around the filler hole. Not sure if that will help you, but thats where I would start. Cheap and easy attempt anyway. Good Luck
RE: Bike Stalling when taking off from stops. Help!
I'm from the cause and effect school. What did you recently change? For example did you just start riding after it sat for a while (bad gas), did you just fill up and it started happening (bad gas), did you and/or your girl friend recently gain a lot of weight, was it running really well before you noticed this or was it gradually starting to run poorly, etc?
RE: Bike Stalling when taking off from stops. Help!
so far, the best I have is that I left my ignition on and it drained the battery. It was at 11 volts when I was going through my diagnostics. it is charging now. we will see how it does in the morning.
Then it will be on to finding out why my battery was low on its charge.
