Mine don't tap until it's cold out say 50 and below, has been rode to warm the engine, then let it sit for about 30 minutes so the oil has cooled but the engine is still a little warm. At start-up it WILL tap to the point it's a little embarassing. Right now I'm running 20W50 but the manual says 10W40 for below 50 I think. I've only got about 7500 miles on it and I'm affraid that by the time it's got 14000 it'll sound like a bomb...

Oil

Next oil change put in some 50 or 60 straight weight fossil oil and see if the sound changes or goes away. If so I have some things that I can suggest.
