Default How to remove Rush baffles?

I have a one-step larger baffle set I want to "play" with. What is the best way to remove existing baffles? Find a way to grab and pull (after allen/nut removal of course) from behind or remove muffler and tap out from entry side?

I know some of you have switched sizes to make louder or quieter, would like your experienced opinions on easiest (or safest) way to remove/replace.

Thanks!

I took the baffles out of my 2" and it sounds much better. After you take the screw out just pull the baffle out and cut the paper tape off. If the slip on has been on for a while it may neeed a little tap with a screwdriver to loosen it up.

One screw/nut combination hold the baffle in place. A regular pair of pliers will allow you to grip the tail end of the baffle and pull twist as it slides out. What kind of mods are you planning?

I have found that a piece of wood(2"x2") struck with a large hammer works best. Spray the inside of the pipe with WD 40 and then insert the wood at an angle so that it catches the shoulder of the baffle, and then hit it hard and repeatedly. Remove the bolt first of course. I changed my baffles recently and couldn't budge it with pliers. JMHO.

weinerdogbone......I assume you mean with muffler off bike and tapped from "behind?"

spikehyre.........I have a 2" baffle, would like more bark out of it. I purchased used 2.25" baffles so my plan was to try the following.
2" w/o fiberglass
2.25" with fiberglass
2.25" w/o fiberglass (maybe, only if one of above still leaves me wanting)

Going to try with the WD-40 and a good pull/twist. I had Roadhouse Doolies on a metric and they were almost exactly like these, or so it appears. First time out was a real pain and before I pulled or pushed hard wanted to make sure there was not another nut or connector. Thanks guys.

The Rush baffle is wrapped loosely with fiberglass wrap. The tighter that baffle is wrapped the more exhaust is directed directly thru the baffle...kind of like a drag pipe....that equals more bark. I re-wrapped the packing on my 2 inch which is how I know. I did not like the harshness of the sound. I pulled the baffle again and using pipe rope (stove pipe gasket packing) I wrapped the baffle loosely. Ended up with a great sound and a packing materiel that should last considerably longer. Have fun with your experiment.

Yes. You have to remove the mufflers from the bike and strike the baffle on the end that would point towards the engine.

I have a little device that works perfect, but you'll have to go to local Lowes or Home Depot. A piece of apprx 3/8 metal rod, 1 1/2 feet long. A piece of metal with a hole drilled down the center. Put a hook in the metal rod on one side and slide the metal on the rod and secure the other end. Hook the baffle, and use the metal piece to hammer against the secured end and it will come right out. Works great. I think easier than taking the mufflers off.

First time I used a pair of channel locks, dont clamp to hard on post in baffle just enought pressure to hold in place while turning the pliers left and right to loosen and then start pulling them out as they loosen up.
second time was easier, after new packing installed, org packing lasted about 15k.

Default Baffles

Did you ever conduct your experiment? What did you find?
