Default 2nd Time This Has Happened

2006 Street Bob, Stage 1 d/l, SEII slipons and high flow A/C installed. TFI coming in two days....

Twice now, within two minutes after start up, while stationary, I blipped the throttle only to have the bike almost stall/die on me. Instead of revving, I get what sounds like a burst of air. Is this a lean indication? I'm hoping my TFI will take care of it. What do you think?

Thanks!

Did you let it warm up good and try it?

The DELPHI EFI system is pretty unique, in the way that it enriches the start up and idle. For the first 60-75 seconds, when you start up, your bike is running VERY RICH.... If you have not allowed this start cycle complete, and the motor to properly warm up (80 - 100 degrees), you are just adding more fuel to an already rich condition...

Let the bike warm a bit, like howler asked, and don't blip the throttle during this cycle.... The ECM is gathering all the environmental data from the sensors, and telling the actuators what to do... You are interrupting that "conversation"...

Oddly enough, gentlemen, this has only happened after letting it idle for a bit - two minutes or so. Before my "false neutral" recall work was completed, I never let it idle this long since I had to sit there with the clutch pulled in the whole time. This did not start happening until I started letting it idle/warm up for a longer period of time.

So this is not an indication of being lean? The exact opposite??

On the contrary, I absolutely LOVE my bike. I just wanted to know about this - the only - issue I have with it. Other than that, it was money well spent. Pay no attention to my signature...it's a joke between some of us guys in the Dyna forum. [8D]

That's where we're getting in to a grey area caused by a lousy service department. To this day, Bartel's service can't give me the part # they flashed my ECM with. There's nothing but "HD Download" on the invoice. When pressed to get me the actual part# for my records, they tell me they'd have to plug it in to see, but, "rest assured we installed the correct one according to your setup." This, of course, was prior to the newest d/l release that incorporates the SEII and A/C both.

I chose just to get the TFI and be done with it.

It takes 2 minutes total, to verify what flash they installed... Did you get your stock parts back??? If so, then you got your cartridge back as well. It will be labled right on the end on the white sticker....

On our Service invoices, the part #'s as well as quantities are on there, as well as the labor time that we charged the customer per event.

I did not get a cartridge or anything like that back from the dealer. Other than that, there were no other parts to give back since I'd done the mufflers and A/C myself. I could drive it down there and have them plug in, however, it's kind of moot now since I'll be installing a TFI and the download will just be tweaked over. I kind of want to know how this "condition" should be addressed when tweaking the TFI.

I can guarantee you the d/l I have is not the best one for my setup. Like I said, I had it done prior to that new d/l release. They want another $150 to d/l the newest version. That's BS, if you ask me. I'd rather spend $40 more and get the TFI, which I did.
