Default Crankshaft Run out

Anyone have info on the crankshaft run out problems with 07 and later 96" engine? What I hear is the crankshafts are "press fitted" and, on some bikes (even with really low miles) the crank shaft run out gets out of spec, hits the oil pump and ruins the engine. Harley has been replacing the whole engine. Anyone have stats on this? Is there anything that can be done to prevent the crankshaft from moving? I have an 08 EGC and feel like it is a ticking time bomb. I don't run her hard but don't baby her either. Hate to have my engine implode.

If ya leave it stock, the chances are good that it will be ok for a long time. Try not to do any engine breaking, use the hand and foot breaks. Get the extended warranty. Or, tear the motor apart and weld the crank, build it up to get 100/100 and ride like the wind.

Just checked the run-out at 26,000 miles, and it's .00325" with the cam plate on. Camplate bushing looks normal as does the oil pump. No excessive vibration or abnormal problems at this time.

Checked mine while I was doing the 103", was .0025 with the camplate off. Decided to leave it as is and install the cams and BB cylinders and pistons. If it was anywhere near the MoCo's .013 limit, I would have taken it out to have it trued and welded. Time will tell.

Not a welder or mechanic. Any idea on how expensive it would be to have the shaft welded? Also if i changed to cam gears would that fix the problem??

Forget about it until you have to go in there and check your tensioner shoes.(25-30k) If you are worried get an extended warranty...but shop till you drop for that because the prices differ at different dealers. Keep your maintanance up to spec and use a quality lube. The statistics are in your favor that your bike will NOT grenade. BTW, there are probably thousands of guys who ride for years on out of spec cranks and don't know it and wouldn't give a $hit if they did.
