Please help me get this thing started correctly when hot...!!!!!!
04 cv carbed softail tc88.
Bike when hot/warm cranks and cranks and cranks. To the point of wanting to throw this thing in the ditch. Not to mention everyone around looking at it like it's a piece of Harley crap...
No miles on this bike to say the least.
Anyway. I have had the carb re-jetted from the first stage one upgrade. I now have a 195 main and a 50 pilot in there now. SAME thing to the t.
Starts fine when cold with enrichener, go in to the store and boom the dredded cranking starts.
No gas, giving it some gas...nothing for a few tries.
What other than the carb can it be? Something electrical? It does seem to crank slow as well at times. Has New plugs, wires...
Check out Daytona Twin Tech. They have an ignition module for 2003 to 2006 models. Check under Tech FAQ.
Will the TC88A solve my hot starting problems?
Some Twin Cam 88Ž engines are prone to hot starting problems. When cranked after a short hot soak, the engine may “kick back.” Over time, this will cause damage to the ring gear and starter pinion.
The TC88A module uses an improved starting algorithm that includes a programmable cranking delay. The TC88A module is shipped with a zero cranking delay: it fires on the first recognized compression stroke. This works best on stock and mildly modified engines.
High compression engines may exhibit a “dieseling” phenomena after a hot soak. This can be verified by temporarily disconnecting the 3 terminal coil primary connector to disable the ignition. If the engine still kicks back or runs for several revolutions after cranking, the problem is dieseling. The only solution is to install compression releases. When compression releases are installed, best starting results will be obtained by programming the TC88A module for a 1-2 revolution cranking delay. This can be done by means of the PC Link TC88 software and optional interface cable.
I have had "too much gas when hot" do exactly the same. I am FI but the idea is the same. I cut cranking fuel when hot and works fine now.
I believe what ajayrk says is the same thing, Cuts cranking fuel. Try and see.
I know what you say about everybody kinda acting like they really don't know you. And the battery getting weaker and weaker. Hate that.
This always works for me on my 01 softail when hot. Mine is a TC88 stage 1 screamin' eagle, cv carb.
1. Ignition on, no enrichener.
2. Make sure you're in neutral.
2. 2 short, 1/4 twist on the throttle, then close throttle.
3. Start cranking and roll another 1/4 throttle and hold till it fires.
4. If it's finicky, I use 2 hands, 1 to hold starter button, 1 for rolling throttle as I crank.

Hope that works for you.
Yep...sounds like kicks may be using the enricher every time he hits the starter. If so, do not use the enricher when the bike is already warmed up.
i got my bike tuned . it works perfect now. but i am efi with a little more compression then stock and more then twice the power. you need a professional who will take the time to tune you bike correctly dyno tune and add the dtt . thatts the way to go.
its not rocket science its a harley.
Sounds like the float level may be too high, Also the accelerator pump may be dumping too much fuel. Try turning off the gas valve 30 seconds before you shut off the motor. If this helps on the next start then check the float level.

I have a couple of quick questions. 1)has the bike sat for any long period of time? 2) What procedure do you use when starting your bike hot? 3) do you open the throttle even partially as you attempt to start it? I have had two kickers only that would start on second or third kick every time, because i had a system of starting that the motor liked, and believe me, kickers are usually bears to start. However, I may have a solution to the hard start not related to the carb itself.
