I have an 06 Ultra and would like to upgrade it to 124". I'm going to have a Baker DD6 gearset installed with a Plus 1 pan added. I'm thinkking about the S&S 124" kit with new heads about $5700.00 plus install. Is this a good kit? What would be a good clutch assembly? I want a wide power band with good oomph when launching and top end to boot. The work will probably done by my local HD dealer unless someone can suggest a good local builder here in MI. My budget is about 12G. Any help would be appreciated.
Keep looking on other boards also to find people who have installed these as is and see what the feed back is. When I get those cranks in here they often get the rod clearances tightened up and get the pins welded and are rebalanced. The heads get welded and cnc ported to bring the quench area and velocity to a better level. I did an engine package for Ray Wheeler (the W*LESSROTOR guy) using the S&S crank, cylinders, cams, pistons and the R&R stage 5 heads and after 85,000 miles he over bored it and put in +.010" pistons, went to Bonniville, and set two records. The Pro Clutch is a very good upgrade.
Ya might wanna consider an OD6 rather than the DD6 on a big motor.
My HQ120 repeatedly had clutch issues that were finally traced to separation of the helical cut gear pairs in the DD6 causing the pressure plate to unload, ever so slightly. I sent the gearset back to Baker twice before the decision was made to swap it for a unit with straight-cut gears. Problem Solved.
I use a Rivera ProClutch with their lockup pressure plate and the clutch is no issue.
I have heard of decent results from the create 124 for S&S. THere are other options that will get ya more power (HQ, TMan, Baisley, Hillside, GMR, etc) but it's tuff to compete with the price of the complete motor from S&S.
The S&S .640 in the crate engine is soft on the bottom, and is actually suited better for Dyna application.
A Wood 9B, or 9F with a 4* advance key, would provide much better torque delivery, and actually result in better fuel economy as well, set up correctly.

Scott is correct the cam is wrong for that build unless you throw some compression at it a woods cam as suggested or a t-man 662-2 will also work .
address the crank issue get it to darkhorse and go with a timkin conversion.
if you want a little more conservative on compression a t-man 625 cam will fit the bill nicely
